IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. IPL treatment is a unique treatment which uses broad-spectrum light to target various skin issues such as sun damage, age spots, freckles, birthmarks, rosacea, and broken capillaries, as well as to reduce hair growth. Optilight is a special kind of IPL utilized for dry eye treatment.

IPL works by painlessly delivering multiple wavelengths of light into the skin, which is absorbed by specific  targets, such as melanin (for pigmentation issues) or hemoglobin (for  vascular issues). This causes damage to the targeted cells or  structures, leading to their destruction or absorption by the body,  resulting in clearer, more evenly toned skin or reduced hair growth. 

Optilight is a quick and painless procedure that can be completed in the office without interrupting your day-to-day activities. Here is a summary of the procedure:

• Treatment includes 9 passes ear to ear under the lower eyelids and then expression of the meibomian glands.
• 4 initial treatments separated by 3‐4 weeks, along with meibomian gland expression are recommended.
• Touch up and maintenance sessions are recommended every 6‐12 months.
